How we add value to Nissan

Nissan Motor Corporation has almost 150,000 employees worldwide and it annually produces about 5,000,000 cars. In Scandinavia and the Baltics, Nissan Nordic Europe has about 180 employees divided between their head office in Finland and the local country offices. As a result, Nissan Nordic Europe has an extensive need for continuous translation work.

Around 30 employees at Nissan Nordic Europe have access to and use LanguageWire’s platform. From there they can order translations and other services, as well as come in direct dialogue with their LanguageWire project manager and the specialised team of translators who have been carefully selected and permanently allocated to Nissan’s account.

In addition to ordering and retrieving translations, the platform allows Nissan a full overview of the company’s usage and invoicing, as well as providing access to other linguistic technology tools to ensure optimal quality and streamlining of the process.

The challenge

“Our newsletter is an important communication channel for maintaining the dialogue with our dealers in the Nordic countries,” explains Maarit Liimatta, who is responsible for Nissan Nordic Europe’s monthly newsletter to the dealers. Each month, the newsletter contains somewhere between 5 and 10 articles, which are customised to match individual markets in terms of the content and language. All the content is normally produced over a two-week period, from start to publishing, so time is a crucial factor. This naturally means that the translations need to be delivered accordingly – fast.

The solution

LanguageWire has created a workflow that ensures Nissan Nordic Europe’s content is always translated into the respective language in under 24 hours.

At the same time I am automatically alerted if the translator comes across a question for the job in hand: This means that we can avoid any unnecessary bottlenecks. The automobile industry is very technology-oriented and each brand of car also often has its own unique terminology. The translations therefore not only require both technical knowledge and industry insight, but also knowledge of the company-specific words and terms. LanguageWire supports this need with a variety of linguistic technology tools, such as TermBase - an online-based terminology database, which contains all company and industry-specific words and phrases in both the source language and the target language - a kind of dictionary. It helps to ensure a consistent language use across the company and optimises the communication in all languages.
